Abingdon RFC Women opened their season with a 22–7 victory over Stow on Sunday 11 October 2026, building a 17–0 half-time lead before holding firm against a second-half fightback.
Carly Hadfield scored twice, with Elle Newsom and Kelly Anne Taylor also crossing for tries. Sophie Fox added a successful conversion. Hadfield’s second try put the result beyond doubt.
Reflecting on the performance, the Abingdon Women’s coach said: “It was our first game of the season, and the hard work put in by the team at training over the summer was clear to see.”
Stow came back into the contest after the break, but Abingdon’s resolute defence protected the lead. The match also marked debuts for Adele Bye and Iris Bruce.
The coach added: “We had two debutants, Adele Bye and Iris Bruce, both of whom put in assured performances.”
The opening result gives Abingdon Women a positive start to the season. The club welcomes women interested in rugby, whether they have played before or are completely new to the sport.
